GARNERVILLE, NY – GARNER Arts Center is pleased to present Tone Color - Paintings by Diane Churchill with Music by Mark Attebery, as one of two winter exhibitions to open its 2024 gallery season. Tone Color is a collaborative project of new paintings paired with original music composed for this multi-disciplinary exhibition. Performed live on opening weekend, the music will accompany visitors to GARNER’s Ned Harris Gallery in Building 35, as an ambient companion to Diane Churchill’s artwork.

This exhibition continues Churchill’s themes related to languages and books. Her abstract paintings on canvas and intimate pages on paper tell stories with color, collage and drawing. Diane’s work has been widely exhibited in New York City and in Rockland County with occasional forays in other parts of the world.

Accompanying the paintings will be original music by Mark Attebery inspired by Churchill’s artwork. “The music unfolds as a continuous suite, taking direction from the colors, gestures and textures of Diane’s paintings” said composer, Mark Attebery. Aside from the live concerts, a recording plays in the gallery to accompany the paintings throughout the exhibition. Live performances on opening weekend will feature Ben Carriel on vibraphone, marimba and percussion with Mark Attebery on flutes. Mark Attebery’s composing career includes collaborations with ballet and modern dance companies and visual artists.

Tone Color will be on view in GARNER Art Center’s Ned Harris Gallery in Building 35, running concurrently with the group exhibition, Other Life Forms, on view in GARNER’s Main Gallery in Building 35.
